Banana. Social implications of a successful business model

This documentary unveils the stark reality behind the picturesque banana plantations of El Oro, Ecuador. As the sun rises over an endless sea of green, the toxic secret of the banana industry comes to light. Aerial fumigations blanket not only the crops but also the homes, streets, and lives of nearby communities, leaving a trail of health issues—headaches, skin rashes, respiratory problems—and a pervasive fear of speaking out.

    Banana. Dispossetion of water

This piece reveals the tragic transformation of a once-thriving river, now choked by pollution from nearby banana plantations. What was once a crystal-clear lifeline for forests and communities has become a dark, sludge-filled graveyard, its fish lifeless and its waters poisoned by chemicals like pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. These toxins, washed into waterways with every rain, have devastated mangroves, silenced birds, and left the air heavy with the stench of chemicals.

This series of short videos is a living testimony of my commitment as a documentary filmmaker and partner in struggle. Here, the camera is not a tool to extract stories, but a bridge to be part of them. To document is to put the body, the knowledge and the heart at the service of collective causes, both others' and our own. It is living in community, supporting each other and building together.

Each video is an invitation to reflect on the importance of documenting from the inside, of being part of the struggles and not just an external observer. It is a call to solidarity, to action and to the construction of a world where cinema and life are intertwined in the same community fabric.
